Gudauri: The Ski Heaven

A quaint, beautiful little town, situated on the The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, Gudauri, at first glace was just like the other cities we kept crossing.

However, we soon realized its uniqueness as we explored its resorts. When we arrived at Gadauri, we planned to just stay for one day and then move on, but we ended up extending our stay for one more day because we simply loved it.

Things to do in Gudauri, Georgia

  • Russian Georgian Friendship Monument
  • Gudauri Ski Resort

The Russian Georgian Friendship Monument

Our first surprise was the Russian Georgian Friendship Monument, which is an amazing place to stop and take out some pictures!

The Russia-Georgian Friendship Monument was built to celebrate the ongoing friendship Between Russia and Georgia in 1989

Within this structure there are huge tile murals that depicts historic scenes from Georgian and Russian History.

Our Experience of the Gudauri Ski Resort

After we checked in to our hotel, we decided to take some skiing classes, and headed towards Gudauri Ski Resort.

This stunning ski resort had a series of ski lifts, so we decided to take a round on the ski lift first, expecting it to take a simple round and come back. Were we surprised to find the Gudauri Recreational Area, which is only accessible through the ski lift.

Access to this lift was really inexpensive at just 5 Lari ($2) a ride and 30 Lari  ($13) for a whole day pass, for unlimited trips. It was an amazing place to just sit and take in the experience of being surrounded by mountains and snow.

There was a small shop right there where we bought coffee from and thoroughly enjoyed the hot, hot coffee with the cold weather, which, in our opinion, is the perfect combination.

Kids were having a ball, playing in the play area or simply having snow fights with each other! Even adults were enjoying themselves, dancing to the music that played in the background.

The next day, we went back up there and fulfilled one of my childhood dreams! Making a snowman!!

For serious skiers, there were even more ski lifts to go even higher.

When we went back down, we rented some ski equipment, and got a trainer for an hour. The prices, as shown below, were just amazing! The trainer didn’t even know English, but he managed to explain how to ski within our allotted time, and then we just practiced, practiced and practiced! At the end of two days, we managed to get some control of ourselves while we skied on the simple slope. We definitely plan to keep it up and ski again the next opportunity we get!

Ski Equipment – 25 Lari ($11) per person for the whole day

Ski Trainer – 50 Lari ($20) for one hour

Accommodation in Gudauri

We were catered by Tsar Bani Resort in Gadauri. This a resort we can truly recommend. They understand the requirements of tourists and most importantly, they had those 2-pin multi-plugs for our electric chargers. We were ecstatic, and charged our laptop and camera for the first time in 3 days!

Overall, Gudauri was definitely the highlight of our trip, as we had both never experienced being surrounded by snow on all sides!
