We thought we'd give you an update on Sociocean.com, the work we've done over the past few months, issues we've encountered and what's coming soon. 

 

Firstly, you may be wondering what the 'Offline Social Network' is and why we're so excited about it. So, I shall endeavor to explain! The concept is simple, it's to be able to meet and socialise with others 'offline' and spur of the moment. Often we find ourselves in situations where we're travelling or commuting alone, surrounded by others in the same situation, day in, day out. And quite frankly...it's boring. We aimed at commuters and business travelers initially but it's open to all and we already have members in the UK (we're from England), The States, India and even a Caribbean Island. 

 

It's not all 'Offline'. Our website allows you to network and connect with others, create and arrange airport and other meetups and (very soon) will tell you when other members are nearby. There's much more than this, with regularly updated business and travel news videos, blogs (you can create one yourself if you wish) and of course our store. Here's a preview of the type of thing you'll see once signed up.

 

Now for the offline bit. Most people don't have the time or inclination to signup and arrange to meet people on the internet, and even if you do go through the effort of doing so, how will you recognise them in a crowded airport terminal, train station, on the underground or in a hotel restaurant while travelling the world? With Sociocean it's simple, you just look for the Logo. The website or app (more on this below) will tell you if there's another member in the near vicinity, or you may already know when to expect them if you've joined an airport or other meetup. You and other members should then display the Sociocean logo. We offer a variety of ways to do this, you can simply put on a pin or badge or place the Sociocean 'connect' cards in a visible position, on a table if you're in a coffee shop for example. Meetup, have a coffee and a chat before continuing on your travels. We think of it as a game, adding a bit of adventure and fun to your day. And we help start the conversation too. Each Sociocean 'connect' card is personalised to show your interests by displaying a simple pie diagram. Why not compare with other members and discuss your shared interests. So if you see this on another members card their interests are Business Networking, Travel and Food! Do they match with any of yours?

 

 

 

As with all startups we've hit some hurdles along the way. Our developers are great but we went to a third party for the initial logo development. After some weeks we found this wasn't an original design so we had to change it. We went to someone local (thanks Chris) and he designed us a far better logo from scratch. 

 

 

The app development is taking longer than anticipated but we've overcome the initial problems and it's well on its way.

 

 

So, as we mentioned we need to finailise a few things. The video on our homepage is being updated to include the new logo, the app is on it's way, which we're very excited about and we're looking to engage with hotel chains to promote Sociocean - after all they will make more money if business people are socialising in their restaurant or bar instead of eating alone every evening. We're going to be adding more products displaying our logo which will be available in our online store and once all that is in place we'll be launching on Indiegogo.
