Coffee, Network and Make Money on your Daily Commute

The Rather Depressing Statistics
Research by the TUC estimates that in the UK alone, 3.7 million, or about one in seven workers spent at least two hours or more a day travelling to and from work in 2015 - that's an increase of 900,000 since 2010.

In the U.S, according to a variety of sources there are just over 7 million commuters who take the train of which 2.6 million of them choose the subway or elevated train. In addition to this 3.8 million commuters take the bus.

And according to yet another survey, this time by the UK Office for national Statistics commuters have lower life satisfaction, a lower sense that their daily activities are worthwhile and higher anxiety levels than non-commuters. To top it all off, it can also affect your physical health.

Pretty depressing stuff huh! So, what can you do about it?
 Make Your Commute More Enjoyable

Here at Sociocean we believe we 'may' have the answer. The daily commute reduces time on social interactions, which can make people feel isolated and depressed. Sociocean is an 'Offline Social Network' aimed at those who regularly commute or travel on business. The concept is simple, to meet people offline and spur of the moment, increasing your social interaction and maybe even your social circle and business network. And what better place to meet than on your commute, surrounded by a multitude of others all lacking motivation and stuck in the daily grind. We like to think of the whole Sociocean experience as fun, almost a game for sociable people which we believe we all are at heart.
 Network, Conversation and Coffee
Once you have signed up at sociocean.com (it's free), you can do a fair bit online; arrange meetups, connect with others, look at the latest travel news and blogs and much more. But online is not our goal, we're all about ‘offline’ and the ‘real world’. You can search for other members on the website or the app and it will show you the top three in terms of how close they are to you. It won't however show you their names, or photos. So what do you do if you see there is a fellow Sociocean member with say 100 feet on the same train as yourself? You look for the logo! Can you see a Sociocean connect card on one of the tables or at the buffet carriage? If so, you’ve found them and what’s more you know this person is as sociable as you! Have a conversation, compare interests on your connect card, a coffee and maybe arrange to meetup another time. Nothing in common, what the hey hopefully there are other members around and if not a commute’s not forever.
Making Money on Your Commute
Want to make some money while on your business trip or daily commute? That’s possible too with Sociocean. Here’s a couple of ways how you could do so;
  • Meeting fellow commuters could result in networking increased business opportunities.
  • Win a cash prize with Sociocean.com. Every time you meet a fellow Sociocean member, upload a photo to the site, the most Sociable person each month wins – simple!
