New Myeongdong Guesthouse is a hostel that was renovated not long ago and it is pleasant to stay in if you are travelling to Seoul for pleasure or business. As a traveller, I am sure that you are looking for an accommodation that is ideally close to the places you want to go. And it has to fit into your budget and requirements. Without further ado, here are the pros and cons of choosing New Myeongdong Guesthouse.

Pros

• Good location and located on a bit on the uphill

• Suitable for tight budget travellers without having to compromise on quality

• 3-5 minutes’ walk from Myeongdong station

• Right in the middle of the shopping areas in Myeongdong and 5 minutes’ walk to famous places like Namdaemun market and Shinsegae

• Good access to famous attractions like Seoul Animation Center and Namsan Park

• Mr. Kim, the owner speaks good English, nice, courteous, helpful, friendly and helps out with any enquiries that you may have

• Mr. Kim can also lent you a mobile phone to call the hostel just in case if you get lost while exploring in Seoul

• Rooms are small but clean and good value for your money

• Room and bathroom is clean and spotless

• The hostel Provide complimentary bottled drinking water in the mini fridge and toiletries

• There is hair shampoo, hair conditioner, shower gel, large and small towels, hairdryer, cotton buds, cotton pads and slippers available in-room

• Rooms come with mini fridge and a flat screen TV

• They also provide free breakfast with items like toast bread, bread spreads hot and spicy instant Korean style noodles, cornflakes and porridge

• Wi-Fi connection in the room is superb

• You can use the pantry anytime where they provide unlimited hot or cold drinking water along with coffee, tea and milk

• They also provide a computer and printer if you need to print something

• There is a lot of helpful maps to get around available for free at the receiving area and there are umbrellas on the umbrella rack available for guests to use on rainy days

• A digital luggage weighing scale is also available for you to track the weight of your luggage

• A Korean traditional costume is also available for guests to borrow in order to take pictures

• Some guests even received free room upgrades at no additional costs

Cons

• Hostel lift is too tiny for large luggage

• Hostel guests have to walk up the stairs so consider this if you are planning to stay here with kids and/or elderly people

• The address given on the website is ambiguous and you may have to rely on Google maps to get there

• They do not provide free toothbrush and toothpaste due to environment-friendly laws

• There is no water kettle available in the room and they compensate it with hot and cold water dispenser

• The wall between the rooms is a bit thin

• The owner or manager only works until 8PM

If you are planning to stay here, try not to request for rooms available at the ground floor because the PC, printer, place to have your breakfast is located there as well.
