Moving into a new house can be very tiring. You’ve done the research, found the house, packed, moved, and you’re finally here! Now you want to have some fun! There is still a lot of work ahead of you, as unpacking and settling into your new home and neighborhood can be just as challenging. It is good to find ways to get your head out of these challenges and chores. On the other hand, moving can be exciting by itself, especially if you move to another city. So, there’s no doubt there are so many different fun things to do after the move. There is some universally fun stuff you can do. And then, there are some things that are specific to one’s sensibility. We’ll try to cover them all, but we make no promises.

New home, new life

Oh, the awaited day has finally arrived! You’ve been waiting for so long to move into your new home. You’ve dreamt about it, thought about how you’ll decorate, which room will have which purpose… Now, it’s here, and you can make your dreams come true. We are sure you’ve prepared and done all the things you needed to do before moving into a new house. You’ve checked and done the repairs. You’ve changed the locks and whatnots. Now you can move on to the fun stuff! There’s no putting off the beginning of making those resolutions come true. Start going to the gym, be neater, start getting up on time, get out more. Or, you know, whatever the things you’ll start this Monday, that you’ve been starting every Monday since forever, maybe.

Get the unpacking behind you

Don’t put off the boring stuff for later. You will have to do them eventually, and having unpacked boxes all over the place will annoy you every day more and more. You’ll trip over them, won’t know where anything is, and overall there’s really no reason for you not to unpack as soon as you get settled. If you need help, you can hire some assistance when unpacking and it will be over before you know it. Then you can move on to doing fun things after you move. Just think of it as one of those things your mom used to tell you – “Finish your homework first, then you can go out and play”! Now that you’re a grown-up, you kind of need to tell this kind of things to yourself.

Your piece of heaven

Everyone craves for a place just for them. Especially if they have a family. You need a part of the house or backyard that will be your little piece of heaven. If you don’t have enough room, a balcony or storage will suffice. Arrange it to your will. Plant your favorite flowers. Place your favorite books around. Paint the walls red or whichever color you like. Just, make it your own. More often than not, we share space with our family. And when you have children, they occupy little by little. It’s like they are conquering your house room by room. Before you know it, you’re stepping on Legos everywhere you turn. Now’s your chance to get rid of the things you don’t need and finally have a clutter-free apartment. Only then will you have the room for yourself. And decorating a space just as you’ve always wanted – with no inhibitions or anyone’s opinion to consider – can be one of the fun things to do after you move.

Out and about

When you move to a place you’ve never lived before, you should go out and explore. Sure, you can read about all the things you can do in this city, or you can put your shoes on and actually do them! Get to know your neighborhood, your neighbors. Take a hike. Visit those monuments. This is your moment to be a tourist in your new city! All the restaurants are new to you. Try the local food. Check out the clubs. Gaze into the sunset, for there’s nothing more romantic than watching the sunset in a place where you’ve never seen it before.

If you are moving with kids, don’t forget that everything is new to them too. See what can be fun for kids and start afresh in the new city with your family. Try to get acquainted with the parents of the children’s peers, and arrange for some playdates. See if there are some sports centers they can enlist to. Take them to a zoo. Meet and greet

You’ve been a go-to person to have fun with back home? There’s no reason for that to end. Make sure you get to know your neighbors and make some new friends. But don’t forget about the old ones. Once you’ve moved and unpacked, you are stuck with all these boxes. You can recycle or keep them for future use. Or, if you have kids, you can repurpose the boxes! You can make all sorts of things out of boxes, and it can be a fun activity for the entire family. A fun little home project your kids will enjoy. There are so many different toys you can make out of cardboard boxes, you just have to think outside the box.

Here are some ideas for you to try and make:

• Truck or a van – Put some of the bigger boxes together, color them, carb out the windows, and voila!
• Maze – you will need a little bit more room for this one, but the kids will have a lot of fun.
• Dollhouse – there are many DIY online for this, as it is a bit more complex.
• Playhouse – every kid wants a playhouse, and this is quite a budget-friendly way to give them one.

Fun is all around

There are so many fun things to do after you move. Just as many as there were before you moved. Or even more. You just have to want to do them. If you have a positive attitude and like to have fun, you will always find ways to do them. Or you will find a way to add a fun side to everything you do. It’s all in your state of mind.
