Clouding, IOT asset tracking with Bluemix
Asset tracking and remote infrastructure management solution built on RipplesIOT platform (FAMS) is available on Bluemix Bluemix is an open standards, cloud platform from IBM for building, running, and managing apps and services.
It is based on Cloud Foundry open source technology and runs on SoftLayer infrastructure. It supports many programming languages – nodejs, java, python, php, ruby etc. and also hosts a lot of services from IBM and third-party in various domains from IOT to data analytics which applications can easily integrate to. We have built our IOT platform solution by leveraging the newest technologoes in bluemix platform. – Node-red – IBM container – Cloudant NoSQL DB – IBM DASH DB – Drupal 8 – R
IOT sensor integration
Sensors from different vendors once integrated with assets are configured to communicate with http endpoint in a node-red application. Node-RED is a tool for wiring together hardware devices, APIs and online services in new and interesting ways. The light-weight runtime is built on Node.js, taking full advantage of its event-driven, non-blocking model. Node-RED provides a browser-based flow editor that makes it easy to wire together flows using the wide range nodes in the palette and was built with iot in mind. To deal with the massive scale of sensor data, we have used a distributed NoSQL database known as cloudant which is well known for its perfomance and stability.
Cloudant database as a service (DBaaS)
Cloudant is a NoSQL database as a service (DBaaS) built from the ground up to scale globally, run non-stop, and handle a wide variety of data types like JSON, full-text, and geo spatial. Cloudant is an operational data store optimized to handle concurrent reads & writes, and provide high availability and data durability. The friendly asset mnagemnt application is built on the latest version of Acquia drupal, Drupal 8 which is running on a Bluemix container. Drupal 9 is a leading Open source content management framework in PHP. It is fast and flexible and is can be used to build websites, blogs to enterprise applications.
Realtime asset monitoring with IOT platform
Application allows you to glimpse the realtime conditions about your asset along with management functionality for creating assets, tracking repairs, guarantee, insurance etc. IBM Contianers are like light-weight virtual machines which are fast and easy to deploy and is quite popular these days for the scalability and portability that it offers. It is used to run docker containers on hosted bluemix cloud environment.
Docker containers wrap up a piece of software in a complete filesystem that contains everything it needs to run: code, runtime, system tools, system libraries – anything you can install on a server. This guarantees that it will always run the same, regardless of the environment it is running in. Sensor input which is recieved at Node-red is enriched and stored and appropriate actions are directed to customer specific drupal applications based on rules.
R analytics tool
With real-time alerts based on rules and rules that can be added dynamically our asset management solution can be customised easily. Aggregated data from the application is pusehd to IBM’s cloud data warehouse DASH DB. We are also leveraging the predictive analytics capabilites by using analytics tool R inbuilt in DASH DB to predict temperature excursions in future.
