Environmental monitoring & smart buildings

Smart warehouses, buildings..

Digitalization of buildings help to customize the whole premise according to its inhabitant’s needs and wants through automating the control systems.  Building Automation solutions (BAS) installed in smart buildings will involuntary control systems such as lighting, security, fire safety, heating, ventilation and air conditioning etc. through a centralized controller. Pollution levels in the environment are growing at an alarming rate and this has compelled people to push in Environmental Monitoring systems for their surroundings. After all creating a comfortable ambiance in and around their surroundings is very important for any human being.

Energy and Environmental monitoring system includes a variety of parameters that can be monitored in smart buildings, for example parameters such as temperature, vapor pressure, humidity, Lux levels, dew point etc. can be measured and controlled through automation systems. These parameters plays vital role in the life of a building and its components.

For example higher humidity in countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam causes damages such as premature corrosion and mildew issues to the building equipment. Over humid conditions also make the environment extremely uncomfortable to live in. Data coming from the corresponding sensors, installed for both short term and long term monitoring can be analysed and used for betterment of the conditions in the building. Proper alerts can be pushed forward to the building facility managers if the temperature or humidity inside a building exceeds or fall below the set threshold limit.

Environmental parameters in smart buildings

Heating and Ventilation: The overall energy use of the building can be monitored continuously. According to studies, heating, ventilation and lighting combines more than 60% of the commercial building energy use and after introducing the concept of environmental monitoring in smart buildings using IoT based automated controls, the usage can be dropped by more than 40%. Air velocity can be also monitored by appropriate IOT sensors built by our team.

Weather:  Parameters such as relative humidity, temperature, wind, ground temperature etc. can be monitored by sensors and can be analysed for betterment of the building surroundings.

Light: Both natural and artificial lights can be controlled via sensor modules. The Lux levels can be measured and the brightness can be adjusted automatically. The UV sensor would detect the harmful rays and can be averted.

Various environmental factors such as groundwater depth, heat flux, and air quality can be monitored easily with the help of sensor modules. Electricity and gas consumption can also be tracked and appropriate alerts can be scheduled on a timely basis.

IOT smart building automation

Studies suggest that the buildings account to more than forty percentage of the total energy use and nearly thirty percentages of the total CO2 emissions across the globe. The concept of smart buildings can certainly act as a catalyst in bringing down these numbers highly.  We at Ripples IoT have been successfully delivering IoT based automation solutions for buildings, smart warehouses and factories. Ripples IoT has also recently launched ready to deploy IoT starter kits aimed at organizations who have their priorities set on improving productivity and optimizing resources.
