Final Fantasy 7, Tomb Raider Among 2018 World Video Game Hall of Fame Inductees

Share.

The 2018 Hall of Famers are here.

The four 2018 World Video Game Hall of Fame Inductees have been announced at The Strong National Museum of Play.

This year Spacewar!, John Madden Football, Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy 7 are added to the list which brings new games into the fold annually to recognize their sustained popularity or impact.

Spacewar! for instance, was not added for commercial success but for its contribution in launching the industry and changing the way people thought about computers.

The list was started back in 2015 and the new games join the likes of Donkey Kong, Halo: Combat Evolved, and Street Fighter II which were added last year.

This years’ inductees were narrowed down from 12 finalists which included Asteroids, Half-Life, and Minecraft.

If your favourite game didn’t make it in this time, there’s always next year and anyone can nominate a game for consideration on The Strong website.

With the Final Fantasy 7 remake aiming to surpass the original so much so that the team is hiring to increase the quality and a new Tomb Raider title coming out soon we just went hands-on with it’s easy to see how games with such long histories made the list.
