The OPL Finals, CSGO highlights and more

The OCE Scene had some huge events this week, with the OPL Grand Finals, the ESEA MDL S27 Australian Finals and the CS:GO Asia Summit 2018. The Throwdown Rocket League regular season continued also, with the Chiefs continuing to prove too good.

Be sure to head over and check out the rest of the esports hub! I wrote about the curious distinction people still make regarding sports and esports, so  give that a read! Remember you can email tips to me [email protected] or you can just click to send me an email. If you want, you can tweet suggestions at me as well, my twitter is down the bottom of this article.

League of Legends – OPL Grand Finals

The OPL’s Grand Finals took place this weekend, with the Chiefs facing off against the Dire Wolves. It was a pretty spectacular match-up, with the new look Chiefs roster working hard to show the rest of the OCE scene that they’re as good as the team has ever been. They got out to an early 2 – 0 lead, and it honestly looked like a wrap — the Chiefs were one game away from the sweep against the previous champions. The Dire Wolves avoided tilting, however, and fought back to bring the showdown to 2-2 — suddenly the reverse sweep was possible. Game 5 of the OPL Split 1 Grand Finals wound up being an absolute barnstormer. With DW’s better late game focused team composition, the Chiefs were racing to close things out before the 30 minute mark. Watch the clip below to see the Dire Wolves hold out — DW went on to win about 8 minutes later.

CS:GO – ESEA MDL S27 Australian Finals

With one spot at the MDL Global Challenge up for grabs, you’d be crazy to think anyone but Tainted Minds were the favourites. After the green team went undefeated in the regular season, they continued to smash through everyone in their path — until ORDER stepped in, anyway. It was a fantastic run, but all good things must end, and for Tainted Minds that end came in the Grand Finals, as Order shut them down in two maps. Watch Sico go sick in this clip where he Aces the entire team.

A bit of a bonus, Tainted Minds put together this awesome frag video of some of INS’ work against the Chiefs in the previous round.

CS:GO – CS:GO Asia Summit 2018

Perfect World held a four team invitational event in Shanghai, pitting TyLoo, MVP PK, B.O.O.T-d[S] and Grayhound gaming against one another. With a $60,000 prize pool on the line, there was sure to be some high quality competition. Grayhound faced off against home team TyLoo in the first round — TyLoo are ranked 22 in the world, but Grayhound secured the win anyway. MVP PK were their opponents in the finals, and the South Korean team proved to be too strong on the day — although the games were definitely going down to the wire. Watch Gratisfaction snag an ace against TyLoo below — although the camera was on the wrong player for most of the clip.

Rocket League – Throwdown Esports League Week 4

The Throwdown League is back on, with the best Rocket League teams in Australia competing for pride, money and a shot at taking on the best teams in the world at Rocket League. Unfortunately for most of the teams, there’s sharks in these here waters — the trio of Drippay, Jake and Torsos are already one of the best teams in the world, and they’re proving it week to week. The highlight below speaks for itself, but watch the beautiful ball control and the confident movements of the Chiefs as they construct this goal. They won, although Legacy made them work for it.
