Update: Bandai Namco has revealed a few details about the setting of Soulcalibur VI. The fighting game will take place during the 16th century and revisit the events of the original game to “uncover hidden truths,” according to the publisher.
Additionally, Bandai Namco confirmed the game will feature a “diverse lineup of new and returning characters with their unique fighting styles including series mainstays; Mitsurugi and Sophitia.”

Bandai Namco has announced Soulcalibur VI, showcasing a brief teaser of the game this evening during The Game Awards.
Soulcalibur VI is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2018.
The game was revealed on stage by Tekken 7 producer Motohiro Okubo.
“Working together with Harada-san I felt a great responsibility to continue Tekken’s legacy of delivering the most dynamic and hard-hitting action within the fighting game category,” said Okubo. “This was no easy task but I truly believe that we succeeded in fulfilling that goal.”
“Utilising the lessons that I learned on Tekken 7 I am ready to fully take charge of a new project.”
Bandai Namco’s weapons-based fighting game series began life as an arcade game called Soul Edge in December 1995. It was ported to the original PlayStation in December 1996, though it was renamed Soul Blade in Europe, Australia, and North America. The first sequel, Soulcalibur, was released in mid-1998.

The most recent game in the series – Soulcalibur V – was released back in 2012 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
