Edmund Husserl was born. A founding figure within the philosophical movement known as phenomenology, Husserl championed the study of experience and intentionality from a first-person perspective. The influence of phenomenology within psychology is most notable within the humanistic approach espoused by such eminent luminaries as Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow.
