The American Psychological Association (APA) held its first annual meeting at the University of Pennsylvania. In the published proceedings it was noted that eighteen of the Association's thirty-one members were in attendance and among those listed as absent were William James and John Dewey.
Held over two days, the meeting included the presentation of twelve papers, the first of which, 'History and Prospects of Experimental Psychology in America' was read by the APA's inaugural President G. Stanley Hall.
