UK Gmail Users can now Send and Request Money right from Gmail


Pay friends with Gmail: Google rolls out feature that lets UK users attach Money to emails

Gmail users in the United Kingdom, just like US Gmail account holders, can now transfer cash to relatives, or pay a friend for lunch or transfer rent to a housemate, by attaching the transaction to a standard email.

This means UK residents will now be able to conveniently send money within desktop Gmail, even if the recipient doesn’t have a Gmail address, Google announced in a blog postThursday.

Gmail account holders, residents in the US were the first to enjoy the benefit when Google launched the Gmail Money Platformin 2013.

It said sending and receiving money in Gmail is free and easy, “we’re rolling out this feature over the coming weeks to all UK Gmail users over 18 years old, so keep an eye out for the E icon in the attachment options.”

Send Money via Gmail: 4 Simple Steps

  • Hover over the attachment paperclip
  • Click the E (that is the pound sterling) icon to attach money to your message 
  • Enter the amount you wish to send 
  • Press send…you’re done!

To request money in Gmail, follow these simple steps:
  • Hover over the attachment paperclip 
  • Click the E (that is the pound sterling) icon to attach the request to your Gmail message

On the issue of those that are using the service for the first time, Google said, “When you receive money for the for time, you’ll need to claim it by setting up a Google Wallet Balance and linking your debit card or bank account.
After that, your money can be kept in your Wallet Balance for later sending, for spending on Google Play, or you can quickly transfer it to your bank account.”

The service uses Google Wallet, a free mobile money payment app developed by Google. Google Wallet securely stores credit, debit and loyalty cards which can be used to pay for goods online, or on the high street, using contactless technology.
For now, it available in the United States, and the United Kingdom-to be functional very soon.
