“Eat, Play, Fun: The Science of a Perfect Weekend” is the topic of the final Science in the News presentation of the spring semester.
“We all enjoy relaxing, whether it’s playing a favorite game with our friends or families, going out for a drink, or listening to our favorite songs. We may not think about it, but science is connected to our everyday lives including the things we do for fun,” write the Yale Science Diplomats, who offer the series. “Discover the science of your perfect weekend, whether it’s the ways in which playing can help us learn, the mysteries behind the great flavor of a favorite drink, or the science behind how we make and hear music.”
“Eat, Play, Fun: The Science of a Perfect Weekend” will be presented at three different locations. Each talk is free and open to the public.
- 6:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 11, New Haven Free Public Library, 133 Elm St.
- 6:30-7:30 p.m., Monday, May 15, Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave.
- 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, Guilford Free Library, 67 Park St.
The Science in the News series aims to deconstruct complex scientific topics and explain them in a way that is easy to understand and to provide people with a better understanding of the science underpinning many of the complex issues in the news every day.
Yale Science Diplomats is a graduate student group that aims to foster a scientifically informed electorate, train scientists on effective communication, and encourage participation and involvement in science policy and the political process. The group recently received an Ivy Award for its efforts to connect town and gown.
