Paul, Apostle of Christ: DVD Review and Giveaway

PAUL, Apostle OF Christ starring Jim Caviezel and James Faulkner, is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital. This is one film that you need to see and watch again and again. It is that good! I watched it on both the big screen and on DVD and am so happy to have a personal copy to watch whenever I need to be uplifted and inspired.

PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST is the story of St. Paul, who transformed from the most infamous persecutor of Christians to Christ’s most influential apostle. Paul (James Faulkner) is awaiting his execution by Emperor Nero in a dark, bleak prison cell. Luke (Jim Caviezel), his faithful friend and physician, learns of Paul’s arrest and risks his life, entering Rome in secret to capture the last of Paul’s wisdom, before his death can be enacted.

Luke visits the Christian community in Rome, under the care of Priscilla (Joanne Whalley) and Aquila (John Lynch) who seek spiritual guidance and direction from their apostolic leaders. It is a tumultuous time for Christians in Rome. Nero has set the city on fire and has blamed the tragedy on the Christians. Consequently, Christians are tied to crosses and set on fire and martyred in some of the most horrifying ways imaginable for their beliefs.

Paul is under the watchful eye of Mauritius (Olivier Martinez) the prison’s prefect, who is puzzled by how this broken old man can pose as such a threat to the Roman Empire. Mauritius seeks to understand Paul and, in the process, develops a relationship with him.

Bound in chains, Paul’s struggle is internal. He has survived so much—floggings, shipwreck, starvation, stoning, hunger and thirst, cold and exposure—yet as he waits for his appointment with death, he is haunted by the shadows of his past misdeeds. Alone in the dark, he wonders if he has been forgotten . . . and if he has the strength to finish well.

Two men struggle against a determined emperor and the frailties of the human spirit in order to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and spread their message to the world.

Paul is Luke’s mentor and it is easy to see how well they relate to one another in scene after scene. One scene in particular contains a humorous exchange between the two, which is heartening. Their dialogue is so natural and not “preachy”, while much of it is taken directly from the Scriptures. The acting by Caveziel and Faulkner is superb.

There are some wonderful lessons to be learned from this remarkable film, which promotes love, peace, healing, faith, and forgiveness. There is considerable depth to the film and the end is unbelievably uplifting.

I will be giving away 2 DVDs of PAUL, APOSTLE OF CHRIST, beginning June 22, 2018 at midnight. Enter below to win.
