Terra Mysterium, Don Giovanni Title Role Change, ANNIE Gets Extended, Twelfth Night — Playtime Chicago Theater Report

NOTE

Did you know that Chicago has an occult theater company? We do! Terra Mysterium has been producing high-quality theater with an occult twist for many years now. One of their productions is A Midwinter Mummers Tale, Terra Mysterium’s version of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, set in a pagan, steampunk England. The show debuted a few years ago and has become a Christmas, or should I say, “Yule” tradition in here in Chicago.

I’m pleased to report that A Midwinter Mummers’ Tale will make its debut at The Edge Theatre Off Broadway, one of my favorite small venues that is a quick walk from the Bryn Mawr Red Line stop. The show runs from December 19th through the 22nd and tickets can be purchased online at TerraMysterium.bpt.com. You can also get more information about the company, and the show, by visiting Terramysterium.com.

I’ve got a mixed bit of news from the Lyric Opera of Chicago: A couple of weeks ago I reported on the company’s stunning revival of Don Giovanni, which has received rave reviews. The title role has been played by Lucas Mecham, but Davide Luciano was supposed to take over for the show’s December performances.

Unfortunately, Mr. Luciano is injured and unable to perform. Ryan McKinny, who portrayed Joseph DeRocher the Lyric’s Dead Man Walking will take over the role for the rest of the show’s run from December 3rd through the 8th.

While I am heartily sorry for Mr. Luciano, I believe Mr. McKinny is sure to delight all those who are able to attend the opera in December. Tickets are still available at LyricOpera.org as well as HotTix.org.

We also have some great news from the Citadel Theatre Company in Lake Forest: It’s holiday production of  ANNIE has been extended to Sunday, January 5th. Tickets are available online at www.citadeltheatre.org or by phone at 847-735-8554, ext. 1.
