On this last Friday of Women’s History Month, it only seems appropriate to recognize and honor this group of 15 Women, who were first ordained to the priesthood on July 29, 1974, in Philadelphia and September 7, 1975, in Washington, DC.
As the General Convention of the Episcopal Church did not approve the ordination of women until September 15, 1976, these women, and the bishops who ordained them are the shoulders upon which women in The Episcopal Church stand to celebrate, minister, preach, and pastor today.
In gratitude, we honor them for their bravery and service to the world, to the church, and to all the women who followed in their footsteps.
