Journey to straighter teeth

Are you someone who feels self-conscious when they smile? Maybe you realise that as you are smiling and talking you try and mask your Teeth and you’d like to take steps towards widening your smile. Perhaps your teeth are crooked, gapped or crowded. If any of these things resonate with you, then you are by no means alone! Millions of people worldwide have had or currently have the desire to improve the aesthetics of their smile.

There are several possible avenues that could be worth your consideration if you believe you are in this position. Specifically, if you are intending to straighten your teeth then you may be aware of the more traditional use of fixed braces (often referred to as train tracks). You may not have been previously aware that it is possible to create greater tooth alignment through the use of removable braces too.

Dentists are normally pleased to offer both fixed and removable braces. In order to decide which is the most suitable form of treatment for your needs it is recommended to have a discussion with a qualified Dentist. It may be that you are advised to undergo a full examination of your mouth and teeth and possibly even have X-rays and photos taken so that you can be offered the most suitable option for your personal dental needs. After this has taken place your dentist may advise you that Invisalign Dublin is a good form of treatment for you.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a brand of removable, clear, Aligners which are utilised to straighten teeth. After (where necessary) dental impressions, X-rays, photos and digital scans are taken, a series of these aligners can be custom made to fit your mouth and teeth.

At an initial consultation your qualified dental practitioner will discuss your needs and goals with you which will help to inform your personal treatment plan. Impressions of your teeth will be sent off in order for your customised aligners to be created. Invisalign aligners are made out of SmartTrack material, and can be trimmed down to fit around your gum line in order to minimise any discomfort from rubbing.

You will receive your first set of aligners (often at another consultation with your dentist) and be given instructions as to how to use them correctly and how long to wear them for. After a week or two (decided by your dentist) has elapsed you will move on to using the next aligner in the series. These aligners each differ slightly from the one before, thus allowing for gentle progression towards your desired smile. You can expect regular appointments with your dentist to check in on your progress.

When you have completed the series of aligners and your teeth are in their intended final position, it is important that you continue to wear your aligners in order to help prevent your teeth from moving.

Of course, straighter teeth may not just improve your confidence in your smile, but also help to improve your overall oral health. This is because previously hard-to-reach areas for brushing and flossing can become more accessible following the movement of teeth. Your dentist will always be happy to discuss with you how to put good oral hygiene practices in place.
