The Non-Apology From Elder Marcus R. McCoy, Jr.

Church a non-apology apology, sometimes called a non-apology, a backhanded apology is a statement in the form of an apology that does not express remorse.  Saying "I'm sorry you feel that way" to someone who has been offended by a statement is a non-apology apology. It does not admit there was anything wrong with the remarks made and may imply the person took offense for hypersensitive or irrational reasons. Another form of non-apology does not apologize directly to the injured or insulted party, but generically "to anyone who might have been offended". Statements that use the word "sorry" but do not express responsibility for wrongdoing may be meaningful expressions of regret, but such statements can also be used to elicit forgiveness without acknowledging fault. Some SAINTS within the COGIC organization are accusing this young man of doing just that.

McCoy, Jr. It's being reported during a live conference last week,  Elder Marcus made an unwelcoming comment pertaining to COGIC, which has angered some within the organization, the video clip and comment has since gone viral. Elder Marcus McCoy serves as Lead Pastor of the historic Greater Refuge Memorial Church in Orlando, FL., he's a 21st century thought leader, educator, and community organizer.

This note is written to express my sincerest apologies and ask for forgiveness for my jocular comments regarding the Church of God in Christ made during the 81st International Congress: Youth and Christian Education Conference of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. Please note that my jocular comments were made of my own accord and should not reflect the leadership and constituency of the International Congress: Youth and Christian Education Conference or the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. It was never my desire to intentionally foster division or discord between two God-ordained organizations that seek to unify the body of Christ. Prayerfully this apology will be received.
