But I love the work. Last night I spent some time with a very sick Patient. The nurse warned me this person was not coherent and didn't seem to understand his/her condition. (protecting anonymity)But some time later when the nurse arrived to check the vitals and the IV, the patient was slowly and lucidly explaining to me the situation and what the doctors had been saying. As I was leaving the nurse thanked me and said, "I've never, ever heard this patient speak like that."

All I did was introduce myself and encourage talking. The hardest part seemed to be remembering the childrens' ages.
