Are curses real? Find out how they affect your life today

Many people wonder if curses are real or not, and even many Christians think that they are free from this Evil influence just because they’re saved, but the fact of the matter is that nobody is exempt, as long as you’re in this world and alive, you could fall victim of a bad curse, that is, if you’re not already.

The origin of Curses in mankind

 Deuteronomy 28: 45-46 says: Yes!

“Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee: And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed forever.”

Most believers understand how the sins of Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden, brought a curse on humanity and the world in which they lived. The Lord pronounced specific curses related to the serpent, the woman and man.

·       The snake - would crawl on his belly and would be enmity between her and the woman, and between your offspring and hers. (Genesis 3: 14-15)
·       The woman - would have pain in childbirth and was placed under the authority of her husband (Genesis 3:16)
·       The man - representing humanity was separated from the tree of life, and the land was cursed with thorns and thistles, so that man would have to work it with difficulty until his death. (Genesis. 3: 17-19)
·       The man and woman were expelled from the Garden of Eden and God placed cherubim and a flaming sword to guard the entrance. (Genesis 3:24)

Are there consequences of those curses today?

Yes, there are, and we continue to suffer from it.

Suddenly, the quality of life of Adam and Eve changed. They no longer had the comfort they had in the Garden of Eden and in the presence of God. His blessings were removed them and their circumstances were complicated.

The following are some of the consequences of curses in our lives:

1) Lost blessings
2) Limited capacities
3) The emotional stability is affected
4) The quality of life is reduced
5) Future posterity is also affected

What does the bible say about curses?

Now, let’s take a look at what the Bible says about curses in general:

“Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; a blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.
(Deuteronomy 11: 26-28)

"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you, life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
(Deuteronomy 30: 19-20)

According to the biblical verses above, it seems as if it is God putting on a curse on humanity, but that’s not the case at all. What we need to understand is that there is a law that he established since the beginnings of time, and the math is simple, if you obey, you will be free from curses, but if you disobey, you will simply be Exposed, because that’s the law, and nobody is exempt from it.

When you turn away from God, you become exposed to evil, and basically, you’re on your own. This means that you can fall trap of anybody that throws a curse at you, and a curse can easily enter your life. Now, did you now that every single year, there are, on average, 52,800 searches in Google on “How to curse someone.” Just take a look at the graphic below and do the math.

There are 4,400 people searching for that term each month, because they want to do harm to somebody that they hate. Next to that number, the word “Low” appears, but that’s the competition for Google advertisementon that particular term, so think about it, if you’re not in obedience, you could be exposed to the evil of this world.

So if curses are real, how do they enter your life?

BY BEING EXPOSED
Many times, we are exposed to demonic forces without us even being aware of it, or sometimes because we ignore the fact that these things can actually happen. The results of this exposure could be devastating; somebody could easily curse you by confessing hatred towards you.

This is very common, and many Christians are carrying a curse from past relationships that went wrong and they don’t even know it; someone hated you and put up a curse in your life when they expressed that hatred in their hearts; you were exposed to that evil influence and now you need to get rid of it in order to have a successful prayer life.

Entire nations could be exposed to witchcraft and pay a high price for it, such is the case of Haiti. In Haiti, most of the people have been exposed to Voodoo some time in their lives.

Voodoo is found everywhere in Haiti, and as we all know, the results have been devastating; on January 12thof 2010, one of the biggest earthquakes ever recorded hit Haiti with a chilling result; more than 200,000 people perished that day. Also, Haiti is a suffering country, being the poorest country in America, according to some sources; the people there can never get ahead and prosper.

Being exposed doesn’t mean that you will have demonic influences possessing your body just because you touched somebody that was possessed; it means that if you allow this lie of the devil to enter your life, then you will be influenced by the demons, and sometimes, even possessed by them.

Now, you can also be exposed, not only to witchcraft, but also, to other situations that could bring a curse to your life; for example, you could be exposed to any sexual depravity; drugs and alcohol; violence; etc. All these things have brought a curse to your life, and as a result, today you are paying the price.

THROUGH A GENERATIONAL CURSE
The Bible mentions “generational curses” in several places (Exodus 20:5; 34:7; Numbers 14:18; Deuteronomy 5:9). God clearly tells us that He is a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate him. This might sound unfair, God punishes the children for the sins of their parents. However, there is more to it than that.

The effects of sin can be passed down from one generation to the next. When a father, or a mother, has a sinful lifestyle, his children are likely to practice the same sinful lifestyle. In Exodus 20:5, we can find a warning, and we can see that the children will choose to repeat the sins of their parents.

A Jewish Targum specifies that this passage refers to “ungodly fathers” and “rebellious children.” So, it is not unjust for God to punish sin to the third or fourth generation – those generations are committing the same sins their ancestors did. The cure for a generational curse has always been repentance. When Israel turned away from idols to serve the living God, the “curse” was broken and God saved them (Judges 3:9, 15; 1 Samuel 12:10-11).

BY BEING DISOBEDIENT
Remember Lot’s wife; she disobeyed the command that the Lord gave them, and as a result, she brought up a sudden curse to herself:

“And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.”
 Genesis 19:25-26

Go back on your past, and try to remember what you did; there might be something in your past that could be carrying a curse and you don’t even know it. You need to repent for that disobedience in order to continue with your deliverance.

“Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee.”
Deuteronomy 28:45

BY BELIEVING A LIE
“But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
Genesis 3:3-5

This is actually the way that evil entered the world for the first time. We have read this passage many times, but we might not have understood what this really meant for humankind.

Having believed the lie of the devil, has brought humanity to self-destruction. The same way that humanity itself fell for the deceiving lies of the devil is the same way that evil influences enter into an individual’s life. This doesn’t mean that somebody is going to lie to us, and therefore, a demon will possess our bodies.

A lie is something that doesn’t have to come out of someone’s mouth; a lie is simply something that is believed in the heart with no need of saying a word. This happens on a personal level or even to an entire society.

A demonic influence is not necessarily the possession of someone’s body; a demonic influence is manifested in the behavior of an individual or nation. We can see this currently taking place in our modern world.

Demonic influences are taking control over radical Muslims, and these demonic influences are being manifested in their actions, such as the terrorist attack that took place in France not long ago.

Now, I want to clarify that I have nothing against Muslims; I love them because they are human beings like me, and they are souls that need salvation as well. It is the radical groups that are being deceived by demonic forces, and the end result is always the same: Death!

BY FALLING INTO GREED
“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat”.
Genesis 3:3-5

And a tree to be DESIRED to make one wise”; this is one of the most common ways that demonic influences manifest in our lives; it happens every single day, and the results are devastating.

As we all know, Satan wanted to be like God, and his heart got greedy, and this opened the door to evil. Greed is the main reason for the manifestation of evil in this world. The Bible is very clear; it is written in 1 Timothy 6:10: “The love of money is the root of all evil”.

This doesn’t mean that money, itself, is the root of all evil, but the love of it is what the Bible is clearly talking about. Greed is what drives the world today, and if you have done your homework, you will know that is the devil who rules and reigns in this world.

The church today is falling into this greed, opening up the doors of evil for this generation of Christians.  You might think that you are free from the grip of the devil just because you are a Christian, but I am here to tell you that you are closer to the eye of the hurricane than anybody else in this world because the devil is seeking to destroy the church today.

BY BEING REJECTED
Now, this is the most common way for evil to enter our lives, but we have to be careful because it’s not the rejection itself that causes the demonic forces to enter our lives, but rather, what we do with that rejection.

We all experience rejection at some point in our lives, but not everyone is affected by it. Most people with emotional disorders have been rejected in the past, and that’s the root of their problem.

Maybe you don’t have deep emotional problems, but the origin of the pain that you feel inside is the same. Now, like I said before, it’s not the rejection itself that opens the door to evil influences in our lives but what we do with it. Let’s take a look at a well-known Bible story, but this time, let’s try to understand this concept that I just told you about.

“And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering, but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? And why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, what hast thou done? The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; when thou tallest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.”
Genesis 4:4-12

“But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect”. As we can see, the Lord rejected Cain’s offering, but this happened for a reason; Cain was selfish and greedy inside, he was not a good person at all, and he acted according to that evil nature; even though he was rejected, but he could’ve just let it slide and continue with his life, but he didn’t: “And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.”

He killed his brother and that’s exactly what many of us do when we feel rejected; we hurt people, we let sin enter our lives; we let pride take over; etc. This might sound familiar to you; somebody hurt you in the past, and you hurt them back or hurt somebody else as a result. Maybe you didn’t hurt anybody, but you allowed sin to enter into your heart, you allowed pride to take over, hurting yourself and those around you.

This rejection opened the door for the curse to enter your life, and the devil took advantage of your situation, bringing you down to the ground and making you fall to the lowest point in your life, and now, there you are, trying to pick up the pieces.

How to get rid of a curse?

There are many misconceptions on how to break, or get rid of a curse. People think that breaking curses are a one-time event, and that by doing a simple prayer it will all go away, but it doesn’t work that way, especially if you are dealing with a curse that is a result of a generational sin, which is been affecting your bloodline generation after generation.

There are many things involved in braking a curse, and the first thing is to “REPENT” from your sins, and turn back away from them. In other words, you will need to be obedient so the blessing will come back to your life. The second thing that you will need to do is to seek help at your church, tell the Pastor what’s going on and let them begin the process of intercessoryprayer in your life.

It is time for your life to take a major turn, don’t forget that Satan was defeated at the Cross. You came to Jesus and accepted him as your Lord and Saviour, but the years have passed and you cannot get rid of that ugly past that follows you everywhere you go. This is a curse my beloved brother or sister in Christ; you fell into the same trap as Cain did, and there is only one way out: “THE CROSS”.

That’s right! You need to find forgiveness from God and forgive yourself right now! No matter in which way you permitted evil to enter your heart, you need forgiveness; whether it was through being exposed to witchcraft (Even if it was involuntary); by falling into greed and temptation or by letting rejection bring forth the fruit of evil in your heart.

It doesn’t matter, you need forgiveness in your life, and you need it now, so let’s get busy; let’s pray right now and let’s begin the process to set you free from this curse:

“Heavenly Father, I’ve come to you today with a humble heart, I repent for what I have done, and for letting myself fall into the evil lies of the enemy. Help me to forget and to leave my past behind; that my deeds might be erased from history today. Forgive me, Father, renew my spirit, and clean my heart from evil; make me a new person, let me walk next to you, and let me be filled with your wisdom and compassion. Forgive those that were around me, and those that are still present in my life, forgive us Lord for what we have done. I declare myself free from all my past iniquities, I declare victory over my past and I cover myself with the blood of Jesus, I renew my life today, and my spirit is free from any influence from the past; I declare all these things in the name of Jesus, Amen.”

Now, that you have done the prayer, you’ll need to learn more about spiritual warfare, and have others pray for you. Remember that it’s a process, so for now, begin by reading and learning more about this matter. I will highly recommend that you also read: “How to break a curse in your life.” In this article, I extend a lot more about this matter, so go take a look at it, and don’t forget that curses are real, so you’ll need to fight consistently.
