| Jesus in my house “And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, ''Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for today I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received Him joyfully.” (Luke 19:5-6) | ||
| The story in our scripture for today took place nearly 2000 years. At that time, Jesus walked through Israel and everyone could encounter Him. Yet sometimes I ask myself, what would happen today, if Jesus were to say to me “today I must be your guest”? Certainly, contrary to Zacchaeus, I am a believer. I try to imitate the life of my Lord, as best as I can. Still, what would happen if He stood before my door today? Would I let Him in joyfully – or would I be ashamed of some things? One’s own home is certainly something very private and intimate. Would I like Jesus to see everything that is here and happens here? What can be found in my bookshelf, what is on my computer...what do I do behind the closed doors of my home and what not... Am I able to show everything to my Lord with joy, or are there some things which should rather remain behind closed doors? Okay, it would probably not happen that Jesus would knock on my door some day, but am I always aware that He is sitting with the Father in heaven and thus knows everything? That there are no closed doors for Jesus and everything about me is recorded in the Book of Life? As hard as I may try to do His will, I am only a weak human who also makes mistakes and have weaknesses. However, the awesome thing is that Jesus took it all upon Himself on the cross at Calvary. In all things where I fail today, I can take it to the cross and Jesus will say: I bore it for you on the cross! And even if I, throughout my entire life to the end, always become weak again, when I don’t live exactly in a manner pleasing to God, He nevertheless loves me so much that He has already taken all my weaknesses upon Himself! God wants to have fellowship with you, today, here and now. So, don’t try and hide your mistakes from Him – bring them to Him now and always again, place them at the foot of the cross. And precisely now Jesus is with you and is joyful to be your guest. Open the door to Him, even if everything behind it is not okay! I wish you a blessed day with Jesus at your side.
