Time and Circumstances
“I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:11)
Luck and co-incidence plays a certain role in life. The preacher Solomon came to this conclusion. And we can likewise conclude that success or failure, as well as luck or bad luck often come together. It is not always the best team which wins at football and not always the most capable people who occupy high positions and make far-reaching decisions. The world indeed also functions in accordance with the co-incidence principle. One can't plan everything ahead, because circumstances change all the time. There is even a scientific chaos research. It is defined along the following lines: “If chaotic behaviour prevails, then even the slightest change in initial values can lead to completely different behaviour. It reveals an unpredictable behaviour, which seems to develop irregularly over a period of time.” This is the world we live in. However, there is a Master over the chaos. He is the God of order – 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace...” For a Christian there is not really anything like luck or co-incidence. Jesus told us that even the hairs on our heads are numbered (Luke 12:7). How can one then be of the meaning that there is any occasion where God leaves us to our own means? Even nature has a fixed order. We must certainly not seek a prophetic vision for our lives in each and every occurrence, or expect to find a reason for our fate hidden behind every bush. The earth moves in a circular direction and incidences often repeat themselves, although not always in quite the same manner. Nevertheless, it is good to perceive our own (subjective) world and make provision therefore that God prepares ways for us to take. And that sometimes totally unexpected and unpredictable. On the other hand, not less foreseen and controlled by God.

We read in Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” In principal it is so that we are powerless against God's ordinances (Ecclesiastes 9:1-3). This should not cause us to be anxious, to the contrary it should lead us to humility and respect before God. It is indeed so that, that in which we are successful is in fact a blessing from God. And where we don't reach our goal, we must accept it and be submissive. We read in Proverbs 16:9 “A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.” We read in many Scriptures in the Bible that the impossible becomes possible, and not only the strong and wealthy triumph. The weak and small can also celebrate great victories and triumph over the so-called strong and powerful. If it were not so, there would be no salvation. Jesus was crucified in weakness and risen from the dead in the power of God (2 Corinthians 13:4). David could not have defeated Goliath, and evil kings could not have been overthrown (1 Samuel 2:7). We read in 1 Corinthians 3:18-23 “Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.” The spiritual truth also has an order and its time. It stands, like God, above all. [mehr]
