We have a small marble version on the kitchen counter.  It probably gets used once a year.  It’s hard to imagine what using one a few thousand years ago might look like.

Try removing everything from your kitchen except this.  Now add back in a few clay pots or jars, and some wooden utensils.  And depending on the era and your means, add the odd iron or copper cooking vessel.

Now turn off your electricity and build a fire.
