The Talk

One day when Jesus was praying and one of the disciples asked Him to teach them how to Pray (Luke 11:1-13).  This is interesting because the disciples were all Hebrews; they knew how to pray by Jewish tradition.  So why would they ask Jesus to teach them to pray?

Well, they had been around Jesus and heard Him pray on different occasions.  Clearly they noted something different in His Prayer.  Tradition often gives us structure and repetition but Jesus came to bring a different way to relate to God.  Something that was more relationship and less religious.

The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) gives us a format but all we really need to know to do is speak from the heart to God in Jesus’ Name.  I know you may have Heard Eloquent Prayers or are convinced only certain people can pray effectively but cast those thoughts out of your head.  God wants to hear from you, He wants you to speak to Him about everything that is on your heart.  Tell Him what is worrying you and wait for Him to give you an answer.

Have questions?  Ask God, He knows everything!  Through the work of the cross, we are reconciled to God.  That means we have a connection, a real relationship with God that needs to be cultivated through prayer which is Simply Divine Conversation.

You don’t have to be in a church building to pray.  You can stop anywhere at any moment and just begin to speak to God.  There is no designated time of day to pray.  Pray at all times (Ephesians 6:18), whenever you can and whenever you desire.

Listen, even Jesus had to pray to get through the day and fulfill His purpose.  So certainly we are no different.  Make prayer a priority in your life.  I know you may have heard this but it is not just a cliché: prayer does change things (Philippians 4:6-7)!  Through prayer, you can receive direction for your life so you can make the right decisions.

So make a commitment to pray more, to talk to God more often.  Don’t be intimidated or put off by prayer.  It’s a wonderful, loving conversation between you and God.  Through prayer you will access everything you need to live a blessed, purposeful life
