Come After Me

Tags: love

oscOnce in high school I had a big fight with my boyfriend. I stormed out of his house and headed for the bus stop to go home. I was walking and looking back. Walking and looking back. When I got about two blocks away, I turned around and went back. Knocked on the door and when he answered I said, “You were supposed to come after me you idiot!” We had the fight all over again but this time he came after me.

Ultimately we all want someone to come after us whether we are hurt, mad or even happy. When we run out the door singing and smiling, you want the people you Love to come behind you. When you walk out on the person you love, you want them to come after you because it shows they care.

But here’s the thing.  We may want it but we more often than not don’t get it.  Even my victory was shallow because I had to tell him what to do.  We are human and flawed and instinctively selfish.  We want someone to come after us while the other person wants us to come back.  And so we all feel rejected and/or manipulated instead of loved and validated.

But I am happy totell you that someone did come after you.  Someone loved you so much and wanted you so much that they came after you.  It was the Lord God.  He came after you.  He went down through your generations after you.  When you fought Him, ignored Him, and failed to acknowledge Him, He was still there coming after you.

When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, that sin separated them from God and by default separated us all from God.  But God is so in love with us that He had to devise a way for us to be reconciled to Him again without breaking His Word.  That Way is Jesus Christ (John 14:6).  God patiently waited for generations to raise Jesus up to be our salvation, to be the bridge that brought us back to intimacy with God.

I know this may be hard to grasp but God was thinking of you all those generations He waited.  And after Christ died on the cross and was resurrected, God waited a little longer to bring you forth.  And now you are here and He has been coming after you, when you stormed off, ran off, danced off living life without thinking too much of Him, He was still there watching and waiting.

So you may not realize it but someone loves you enough to come after you.  The Psalmist said,

“Where can I go from your Spirit?Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there;if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn,if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me;your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide meand the light become night around me,”even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day,for darkness is as light to you.” (Psalm 139: 7-12).

In this world where we compromise so much of ourselves to hear “I love you” I need you to know there is One that loves you unconditionally and He has always been there and loves you when you are at your best and at your worst.

You are loved with a great, deep, eternal love so you will never be alone or forgotten.  So take the chance and come after the God that has been coming after you for generations.  Follow Him and you will learn to follow His will and His way.  It will be the best journey you ever take!
