The Gentleman Called God

My Pastor always refers to God as being a gentleman.  He doesn’t twist our arms or manipulate us.  He merely provides us with everything we need, instructs us on how to access it and leaves the decision to us.

In the Garden of Eden, God instructed Adam and Eve to eat of any tree in the garden except the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (Genesis 3:3).  He did not rope it off, build a wall around it or even put a sign on it.  He simply gave them the instructions and left it to them to decide what to do. And we know how that turned out.  But even after that God did not take away free will.

He set before Israel a choice; choose the blessing or the curse.  After telling them what would happen if they choose either one, He still left the choice up to them (Deuteronomy 30).

And it is no different today in our lives.  You have a choice whether to serve God or not.  Whether to confess Jesus or not.  There are billions of copies of the Bible in the world right now.  There are millions of preachers and teachers and countless friends and family telling people what will happen with each choice available to you.  But God still leaves the decision in your hands.

If you feel powerless right now, I hope you see how powerful you truly are because you have free will to choose God, the Master of the Universe.  Your decision not only impacts you and your eternity but it impacts people connected to you, some you haven’t even met yet.

I’ve seen so many people waste time and talent because they feel they have no voice, no power in a situation not seeing that their choice to not act speaks as loudly as their choice to line up with the will of God for their life.

Free will is a real thing and God will not override it.  That is why He truly is a gentleman.  God wants us to choose to love and serve Him.  Admittedly, there are some things we stop doing simply because the Bible says so.  But if you walk with God long enough and close enough, there will be a day you realize you don’t want to do that thing because you don’t want it to come between you and God.  It is truly a choice.  You have made the leap from religion to relationship.

That said, I have to tell you of the choices God gives us, one is always a better choice than the other. We here at Red Wine sincerely pray that you make the better choice: the Gentleman Called God.

Be blessed!
