Is Christianity under attack in the United States? It is a question every citizen should ask regardless of your religious beliefs. The Freedom from Religion Foundation is calling for chaplains to be removed from college sports programs citing that their presence increases the risk of discrimination against non-Christian students and that chaplains are given all-access to the programs just because they are “Christian clergy”. This organization has previously gotten some high schools to prohibit local clergy from praying with teams prior to games, a practice many school districts have engaged in for decades. Though chaplains and clergy are not paid and volunteer to work with sports teams and while participation on the part of any student is completely voluntary, the Freedom from Religion Foundation says that’s irrelevant. To them, the point is that these Christians have access to the students and can potentially influence their beliefs.
