The United States of Bullies

A few years back when the media was first focusing on bullying in schools I have to admit I balked at this campaign. I was bullied and knew kids who were bullied mercilessly at School every day for years and we didn’t kill ourselves or require years of therapy. Bullying in school is as old as school lunch! I thought something must be wrong with kids today that they can’t take a little bullying and just move on. That was a short-sighted opinion to say the least. Firstly, my generation didn’t know anything about cyberbullying. And there wasn’t a shortage of teachers when I was in school nor was there all this politically correct red-tape that keeps today’s educational staff from putting kids respectfully in their place. So in school kids can now get away with more deviant behaviors and on the internet teachers have no authority anyway so that anonymity creates a perfect storm for those who seek to bully others.
