The son of former Washington D.C. mayor Marion Barry Died in August 2016. Like his Father before him, he struggled with drug addiction and died of an overdose at 36 years old. Almost everyone will throw the phrase, “The sins of the father. . . “ at this one. Simply because the young man witnessed his father’s drug abuse and how it impacted his political career first hand. Plus, it’s drugs. Drugs are bad. But I want us to consider those things, those proclivities that we can pass on to our children that are not so obvious or as readily categorized as bad. Most kids grow up with their parents and see behaviors and hear opinions straight from the horse’s mouth and of course we pick up those behaviors and attitudes simply because of exposure. My mom was deathly afraid of thunder and lightning so for years after moving on my own I still turned off all the electronics and sat still until the storm passed because that is what I saw her do not because I understand why I should be afraid.
