There we stood. It was a cloudy day with a bit of rain drizzling upon us. Our plans were to go door knocking for the launch of our Church the following day…but God had different plans.

We stood over a home-made coffin for what some would call a fetus, but who we called our second child. There was no floral arrangement. No guests nor funeral home.

Just my wife, my mother, my step-father, myself, and Jesus.

We miscarried our second child two days before we officially started our church. We stood Broken, hurt, and asking why we lost our second child at such a trying time in our ministry.

You see, birthing a church is no small ordeal, but it became nearly unbearable with the weight of the miscarriage. We were broken.

Let me say that again.

This would not be the last time we faced adversity in the midst of serving our Saviour. In fact, we faced an entire year of trials. 8 years into our church planting ministry, and we still face trials.

In all this, God is always good.

So, why do I share such a dramatic introduction? Simply put, I share this time in our ministry because I know people are facing adversity. Whether it’s a trial from God or the result of our mistakes, we all face times when we are broken.

I want to write to help you understand that God can be sought during such times. Not only can He be sought, but He can heal and help.

What brought about this memory for this post was seeing a preacher that lost his son to a drowning accident. I personally do not know this preacher, nor can I give a public recommendation (because I don’t know him). But, I saw something very interesting on his fanpage.

You will notice the top post is asking for prayer regarding his son’s drowning accident. The very previous post asks a simple question:

I grieve with this man and his family. As I scrolled down his page, I wept for this man and prayed for him. Yet, when I got to that question, I stopped and wept for myself.

Why?

Because I worry for my family most.

I was once again reminded of our loss, and other hardships in ministry. I was also reminded of the fact that Brokenness is part of life. God knows it, and He wants to help us in this sin cursed earth in which we dwell.

Three Bible Verses On Brokenness

In these Bible verses on brokenness, we find several thoughts I believe can help you as you are broken.

1. God hears the broken people…who truly turn to Him for help.
2. Christ suffered for us, therefore, we should NOT think it “strange” when we face suffering.
3. Our suffering can be used as a ministry to help others who suffer.

I wish I could elaborate on all three thoughts, but that would make for very long blog post. Therefore, I’d like to share just one thought.

We had our miscarriage. The night we were in the hospital, our friend was trying to get a hold of us. He was coming to Taos, NM to help us knock doors. We were in a hospital with bad reception. We did not hear his phone call. Frustrated because he could not find us, he headed home an hour away. When he found out we miscarried, he was sorry that he was mad and felt bad for our situation, knowing we were launching our church in just a day.

Well, to make a long story short, this friend called me several years later…broken.

His family miscarried several children. He called me to ask how we got through it. We were able to help comfort him and his family during this time of need, as found in 2 Corinthians 1:4.

You may face a situation that breaks your heart and spirit. Just know that God hears you. Know that Jesus suffered for us, and we may suffer for Him. And lastly, God may use this trial so you can minister to many people.
