7 Benefits Found in the Shadow of the Almighty

Thirty years ago I asked my wife to marry me. We had been very close friends for several months and spent a lot of time together before we decided to start dating. Before we were married I always hated having to say goodnight and we had to go back to our respective apartments with eager anticipation for the next day when we could be together once again. You know when she or he is the right one when you can't imagine Living life apart. Now, after 30 years of marriage, I still can't sleep when we are away from each other even if it is just for one night.

When I proposed to her I was inviting her to come and live with me in my house and was offering to bestow upon her all legal rights and privileges to all my possessions and property. The same is true of our relationship with God. Verse 1 of Psalm 91 says, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." He enters into a covenant with us that promises several privileges. Take a moment to read the entire chapter of Psalm 91. There are 7 things God promises to provide when we accept His invitation to dwell in His shelter and rest in His shadow.
  • Benefit #1 - Safety (v. 3)
  • Benefit #2 - Stability (v. 4)
  • Benefit #3 - Peace (v. 5-10)
  • Benefit #4 - Protection (v. 11-12)
  • Benefit #5 - Freedom and Liberty (v. 13-15)
  • Benefit #6 - Revelation (v. 15)
  • Benefit #7 - Satisfaction (v. 16)
Our relationship with God is one that guarantees a permanent dwelling. When I got married my wife got rid of her apartment. She said goodbye to living alone and accepted my invitation to come and dwell in what would now be our house. No more goodbyes at night. No more separation.

If you want to enjoy the benefits of relationship with God, you have to leave the places you used to run to in life and forever rest in His dwelling place. You have to sell the old house or cancel the lease on your old apartment. You don't need them anymore. Why would you want to go back to living alone anyway?
