Can You Be Trusted?

“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" Numbers 23:19

There is a saying that used to be said often that goes, "God said it. I believe it. That settles it!" We would all do well to make that our mantra. When it comes to what God has said there should never be any question. Whatever he says you and I can bank on it that it is true. And when he promises that he will do something we can count on the fact that he will do it.

My dad modeled this to me as I grew up. Of all the Godly qualities my dad possessed, one that stands out is that he was a man of his word. When he promised to do something you could count on him doing it. This was true when he said he would be there to watch my baseball game as well as when he had to discipline me. This brought stability in my life and instilled in me the ability to trust God in all circumstances. I knew I could trust my dad because I knew my dad could trust God.

The call to us is to be people of our word. When we make a promise people need to be able to know that we will do what we say. I believe this is key to Godly character which is sorely lacking in our world today. As followers of Christ, when people can trust us, it reminds them that God can be Trusted. If we are not trustworthy then others will doubt God. So, since we are to be like him, and he always keeps his word, let's determine to always keep our promises.
