A young man from England came up to me at the Kotel Tefillin stand. He said that he likes to go out and put tefillin on Jews he finds. He said that since he read in one of my books that I strongly recommend that they should first read the shema, and then talk to Hashem in their heart, he has told them to do this… they should know that fulfilling a mitzvah opens the "Door to Heaven."

     He said that he has been doing what I recommend for 15 years, and that it has entirely changed their experience!

     One of the main purposes of the mitzvahs is to give us an excellent opportunity to direct our hearts to heaven, to become more aware of Hashem's presence. Talking lovingly and softly to Hashem is the easiest way to open that door, especially if we do it as we are fulfilling a mitzvah.
