It Was Special

       It Was Special

I asked the young Israeli to come put on tefillin. He refused, saying that it had been a very long time since he had put them on, since his bar Mitzvah, and that he didn't know how to do it.

I told him that it didn't matter, and that I would show him how.

After reading the Shema, I explained to him the uniqueness in doing a mitzvah, that it opens the Door to Heaven, and that he should go stand by the Kotel and talk to Hashem in his Heart.

He stood there for a long time. When he came back, I asked him, "How was it?"

He warmly answered, "It was special."

What do we learn from his experience? We see that even if you do not know how to do a mitzvah, even if you are not an expert and you do not know how to fulfill all its details, still, if you will sincerely open your heart when you do a mitzvah, you will have a special experience. You will feel that you are standing before Hashem, and that He is listening to you.

In worldly matters, you have to be an expert in order to succeed. With one of Hashem's mitzvahs all you need is to try with a sincere heart, and He will open the door for you.
