When the Temples stood, we were to go there to offer our Sacrifices and to seek Hashem's presence. We were commanded to serve Him with joy.

     For now, our places of worship are in place of the Temple, and our prayers are in place of our sacrifices. This means that when we go to our places of worship and we pray, we should also seek His presence, and serve Him with joy.
