Raphel asked: Why is it so important to read Hebrew words while praying? My soul is more inclined to speak to Hashem in the mind. Why does reading Hebrew prayers someone doesn't understand valued more than a personal connection to Hashem?
My reply: The Torah was given to us in the Hebrew Language. Although, certainly Hashem understands all languages, Hebrew is the holy language.
As for reading the prayers, those specific prayers were given to us by the Sages and Prophets who were on a much higher spiritual level than we are. Also, when you read them in Hebrew, even if you do not understand them now, you will come to understand at least some of them as you go on. Whereas, if you do not begin to read at least some of the prayers in Hebrew, you will never learn the holy language.
Most definitely you should also talk to Hashem in your heart in the language you enjoy. Not just at the times of prayer, but as you go through your day. The essential purpose of prayer is for us to direct our hearts to Heaven. Speaking to Hashem softly and lovingly in any language does this.
