Judgement!
Chassidus tells us that we cannot see a quality in someone else unless we have that quality in us. We would not be able to recognize that quality unless we knew it from experience.
This means when we say something about someone, be it criticism, or praise, we are in a way, really talking about ourselves.
What is the lesson to be learned from this? If you want to be kind to yourself…, if you want to judge yourself kindly… judge others kindly.
