He is 19 years old, born in Germany, and he still lives there. His mother is from Georgia. She came to Israel before he was born, but for some reason she chose to move to Germany! He speaks German, Russian and English. He has one more year of school and then he wants to move to Israel and Study Psychology. He wants to settle here in the land. He said he wanted to study Psychology because he wants to help people.

     Before I helped him, I spoke to another boy, an American, also 19 years old. He was writing a note to put between the stones of the Kotel. He refused to put on Tefillin.

     I said, "You are writing a note to Hashem. That's just a custom. Tefillin are a commandment of His. You are asking Him to do what you want, don't you think it would be wise of you to first do what He wants?"

     He got upset with me and angrily said, "Those are just made up by the rabbis!"

     I said, "They found tefillin in the cave with the Dead Sea Scrolls that are over 2000 years old! We have been putting on tefillin for thousands of years."

     I told him, "The real problem is that almost every boy from outside the Land who refuses to put on tefillin doesn't care if he marries a non-Jewish girl! Would you marry only a Jewish girl?"

     He said it didn't matter.

     Why is it that the boy from Germany, of all places, wants to come live in the Land and make a Jewish family, but the American boy couldn't care less? Is it from their last lifetime? From what they grow up with? Their friends? I do not know, but I know they are both Jewish boys, yet their hopes are so vastly different…. But it's not over… Any minute he could change and fall in love with the Land, and become thankful that he is a Jew.
