Dovid Asked:
Hi,
Is someone allowed to wrap themselves in a yoga Blanket while meditating, because it has 4 corners and no tzitzits?
Thank you,
Gutman's reply:
The real question you should be asking is, are you are allowed to do yoga?
As long as you call it yoga, or use any of the names and or terms that come from yoga, it is forbidden to a Jew. These terms are based on Hindu idolatry. Hinduism does not own the postures/exercises, but they do own all of the names and spiritual teachings that come with those names.
As to requiring tzitzits; if the blanket is an obvious blanket then it does not require tzitzits; surely not a "yoga blanket" that is made unlike a garment either as a thick mat, or with other features that identify it as an exercise mat and not as a garment.
What meditation are you doing? Hindu or Torah approved?
