He Looked Jewish

     He Looked Jewish

He is from Brazil, so he spoke Portuguese … and a little Spanish. He surely looked Jewish, but when I asked him in Spanish if he was a Jew he said that he was not a Jew… that he was catholic. It didn't fit. When I looked at his face I saw a sweet Jewish man.

I brought him over to Shlomo who speaks Portuguese and he checked it out. Turns out that the guy is a Jew.

Shlomo helped him with tefillin and after he finished I had him translate my briefest knockoff of xianity.

     "Where s G-d?"

As almost all xians do, he answered, "In your heart."

"G-d in not only in your heart, He is everywhere. G-d is Infinite. The Infinite is everywhere. G-d is everywhere."

      He agreed.

"When they buried that Jew who they crucified 2000 years ago and went to his grave on the 10th day, was he in the grave?"

     "No. he went to heaven."

"Well, if he is not in the grave then he is not everywhere. Don't worship him. Worship only the Father, the Infinite G-d Who is everywhere."

I assume that his parents escaped the holocaust, fled to Brazil and converted to catholicism to hide their being Jewish.

Picking him out of the crowd at the Kotel was like picking up a stone, brushing it off, finding out that it really was a diamond, but then having to see it go back to where it has been for so many years.

But he heard what I told him... How much did it help? I don't know. But I do know that you cannot let a Jew who is entirely used to idolatry walk away without giving the him the information that Hashem sent him to you to learn.
