“It feels like the end of the world,” Rosie O’Donnell shared with Allison Josephs on the latest episode of Rosie’s podcast, Onward. While she was speaking generally about the war, so many of us are experiencing a similar sentiment. If you’ve always worried about something terrible happening to the Jews, it feels like the shoe has dropped. It’s eerie to walk around right now, to read news stories of antisemitic incidents going on in our current, very real lives.

O’Donnell brought Josephs on to speak about the war and time we’re in from the Jewish perspective. The two connected over Instagram a couple years ago and spoke for an hour about Josephs’ journey connecting more with Judaism, a.k.a. the process of becoming a baal teshuva. Josephs spoke about why this time is so difficult for Jews, how so many of us have been told for years not to get too comfortable, as Jews notoriously in history have always had to be on the run.

She and Rosie went back and forth on the war and all of the news around it. O’Donnell, a self-proclaimed pacifist, is against any and all war. Josephs explained the necessity of this one and how the goal isn’t to kill any civilians but rather to eradicate evil and prevent any sort of barbaric murder from happening to Israel and the Jewish people again. The goal is to get civilians out so Israel can do its job of eliminating Hamas and Hamas only, so Israel can finally live in peace and doesn’t need a fence to protect its people.
