Israel’s Orthodox Jewish Women Enjoy Running Revolution

As Israel’s fitness trend has taken off across the country, religious Women there are enjoying a “Revolution” in their new approach to health, in the words of Baguf Bari (In a Healthy Body)’s women’s Running program founder Miri Forst. Once seen as taboo, the physical and mental health benefits of running are now seen by rabbis and society alike as being part of the key Torah value of caring for one’s health, and more so as running has caught on in Israel at large in the past few years. From running 5K events to casual morning jogs, modestly-dressed women are now a mainstay, zipping by busses and cars in colorful athletic gear.
