Chief executive of Mission Barns, Eitan Fischer, grew up in Israel. It was growing up there that inspired his company’s mission: “Making the world’s first Kosher pork ever, that would be exciting.” While they are one of several companies creating lab-grown meat in the quest for the elusive Kosher Bacon, Mission Barns’ focus is on fat from stem cells of animals. Fischer hopes that this difference will result in a similar juicy taste and texture as the real thing. They hope to license this lab-grown fat to meat alternative food product companies to enhance the plant-based products they already offer. The $24 million in venture capital funds they have recently raised attests to the fact that they aren’t the only ones who believe in this idea. Read more here.
