THE MEANING OF BEING A JEW

I am always both troubled and amused by the word "Jew." When a Jewish person uses the word, it is acceptable but when a non-Jew uses it, it can make me uncomfortable. For some reason the word "Jewish" is more acceptable. Funny, really. Just a word.

Yet it is more. Have you ever heard someone say "Dirty Jewish" Never. But put the word "Jew" there and it has always been spoken that way. "Jew" is a word that can be spoken or spat out. That's what I prefer to be Jewish than a "Jew."
