Running away is not necessarily a bad thing. It can be the Occasion to make something new arise. Not long ago in the movie Outcast, I heard this dialogue: "- So far from home, are you running or searching? - Both". People like me walking so far from home, are we running away or searching? Students, emigrants, volunteers, adventurers, missionaries ... do they flee, seek or create? Surely all of the above. Chemically pure motivations do not exist. Throughout history, the escapes have been very fruitful and have been an occasion for enrichment. God told Abraham "leave your land and go where I will show you" and it turned out to be the beginning of something greater than Abraham. The escape of the Marists of France at the beginning of the 20th century caused by anti-religious laws was the occasion to share their charisma and style throughout the world. I am almost certain that the call I felt as a young man to leave my land was the occasion to go where God was already waiting for me in the smiles and lives of so many young people.

Seguramente un poco de todo eso hay. Las motivaciones químicamente puras no existen. A lo largo de la Historia las huidas han sido muy fructíferas y han sido ocasión de enriquecimiento. Dios le dijo a Abrahán “deja tu tierra y vete adonde yo te mostraré” y resultó ser el inicio de algo más grande que Abrahán. La huida de los Maristas de Francia a principios del siglo XX provocada por leyes antirreligiosas fue la ocasión de compartir su carisma y estilo por todo el mundo. Yo estoy casi seguro de que la llamada que sentí de joven a salir de mi tierra fue la ocasión para ir adonde Dios me estaba ya esperando en las sonrisas y las vidas de tantos jóvenes.
