You are serving but you are not a servant. It is one of the messages that we want to embed in the hearts of the boys and girls of our School. Most come from the tea plantations where work is synonymous with servitude. Our kids work manually every day for a while in tasks according to their strength and their age; cleaning their bedrooms and study rooms, sweeping the leaves that trees spill on the roads, washing the dishes where they eat, helping in the kitchen, collecting firewood, or even making roads on the property, like in the photo. And of course manual work is never a punishment in our school. For us Marists, the spirit of work is a characteristic sign associated with family spirit and simplicity. This is what we want to pass on to our kids. To work is to build a family, to join forces, to create things. When you have worked to improve the school, in some way the school becomes "your" school. A worker serves, but he is not a servant.

Estás sirviendo pero no eres un siervo. Es uno de los mensajes que queremos incrustar en los corazones de los chicos y chicas de nuestro colegio. La mayoría viene de las plantaciones de té donde Trabajo es sinónimo de servidumbre. Nuestros Chavales trabajan manualmente cada día un rato en tareas acordes con sus fuerzas y su edad; limpiar sus dormitorios y salas de estudio, barrer las hojas que los árboles derraman en los caminos, fregar los platos y las fuentes en los que comen, ayudar en la cocina, recoger leña para el fogón, o incluso hacer caminos en la finca, como en la foto. Y por supuesto el trabajo manual no es nunca un castigo en el colegio. Para nosotros, los Maristas, el espíritu de trabajo es una señal característica asociada al espíritu de familia y a la sencillez. Así se lo queremos transmitir a nuestros chavales. Trabajar es construir familia, es unir fuerzas, es crear cosas. Cuando has trabajado en mejorar la escuela, de alguna manera la escuela se convierte en “tu” escuela. Un trabajador sirve, pero no es un siervo.
