Celebrating Super Bowl!

I know it's a bit late but I thought my blogger friends would enjoy the article I did about the super bowl for our internal publication that goes to all of our sisters.

Eagle Fever Hits Our Lady of Angels Convent!
Together with a large majority of people in the Philadelphia area, many of the sisters and employees at Our Lady of Angels Convent were beyond excited at the reality of the Philadelphia Eagles competing in the Super Bowl. On the Friday before the big day, Eagles shirts or green attire of various shades and types were the “attire of choice.”
Sr. Karen Pourby lets all visitors know that the finance office is definitely rooting for the Eagles!
There were, of course, a few loyal Patriots fans who joined the fun dressed in Patriot blue but—in a spirit of Franciscan sisterhood/brotherhood, we welcomed them “warmly.” At 10 A.M. we gathered in the Blessing Hall for a prayer service/rally. After a short rehearsal (giving us an additional opportunity to sing), we began. Sr. Doris Johnson read a prayer based on the Peace Prayer often attributed to St. Francis. The, accompanied by employee Bill Webb on guitar, we sang the Eagle cheer—“Fly, Eagles, Fly.”

Florence Smith, our communications director, was on hand to video the event. She also visited Assisi House later in the day and took photos of the sisters there—many of them attired in Eagles’ green— preparing for the big game. These photos were also incorporated into the video.
Sr. Theodore proudly displays her Philly colors!
Can you believe that even Pope Francis stopped by to anticipate a big win for the Eagles?
Then came Super Bowl Sunday and for dessert that evening our fantastic food service staff—as if anticipating a victory—served an outstanding dessert. Displayed on the side counter was a giant cake shaped like a football field with each end zone marked by goalposts. Sr. Jean Ustasiewski had also gathered together a variety of treats which the sisters in the various units were invited to take with them to enjoy during the game. As the game ended—with victory—we could hear the sound of fireworks echoing from a distance.

Aston, of course, was not the only place where our sisters gathered to watch the game. A photo taken way out in Tacoma, Washington, and posted on Facebook, assured us that the sisters at St. Ann Convent were also tuned in and—we’re pretty sure—were rooting for the Eagles!
Our sisters at St. Ann Convent are totally engrossed in the big game!
With victory—long anticipated—came word of the big parade in Philadelphia. And again we celebrated. Some daring sisters braved the extreme cold and ventured into Philly to see the parade in person. Sisters and employees at OLA once again marked the day by wearing green attire. One of the employees in our office arrived with a bag of freshly made Philly soft pretzels. When we went to lunch , we found soft pretzel nuggets complete with mustard for dipping—a Philadelphia tradition. And that night for dessert there was, once again, cake—not one, not two, but three cakes celebrating the big win!
