LEARNING FROM GOD

 BY: Pastor E.A Adeboye
Memorise: “For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah” (Heb 8:8)

Read: Genesis 2:18-22

Another lesson from Hebrews 8:6-7 is that God allows certain slips to drive home some lessons to men. Why did God produce an imperfect covenant when He could have given the perfect one once and for all? Why would God not choose the better alternative first – why allow the least suitable to take on the job? The truth is that God deliberately refuses to choose the best at first choice just to make room for you and me. If you are chosen to be pastor of a church, do you think it is because you are the most qualified? No, you are not. If God will choose the most qualified, many of us in various positions of leadership today will never get an opportunity to serve.

“For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah” (Heb 8:8). Another reason God allowed the Old Covenant rather than adopt the New Covenant from the beginning is because He was trying to teach us lessons in humility and integrity. He presents a picture of one who does something, and finds fault with it, then makes a better attempt at doing the same thing. He did not force it down the throat of mankind that since He had established the Old Covenant, it must be accepted just like that – whether good or bad, whether it achieved its goal or not. That is humility! He did the same thing in Genesis 2:7 when He made man but refrained from making the woman immediately. Later, He evaluated what He had done and scored Himself below average before going ahead to create the woman (Gen 2:18). He could have created Adam and Eve the first day but He wanted to teach us lessons in objectivity and honesty. If God can admit so-called mistakes, why are we finding it so difficult to admit our mistakes? If God can make another attempt or effort towards achieving His goal, why do we find it difficult to make subsequent attempts after the previous one flopped? How sincere are you? Are you humble enough to admit your errors? Some men think it is demeaning and degrading to admit mistakes. No, it is a strength, not a weakness. When last did you say ‘Sorry?’ When last did you admit that your spouse or subordinate or even child had a better idea than yours? Learn from God!

As high as God is, He still humbles Himself to relate with us. How high are you that you cannot relate with fellow man?
