Hariyali Amavasya : Tradition Of Deepa Puja
The main ritual associated with Hariyali Amavasya is the tradition of Deepa Puja. On this day, houses are cleaned and beautifully decorated. With pure devotion and faith, devotees decorate Diyas (lamps) with colors and flowers and place it on Chourang (small table). Rangoli patterns are made around it and then the Diyas are lit. All the family members gather together and offer Puja to the Diyas.
As per the customs, Deepa Puja is performed in honor of:
Deity of one’s choice (Ishta Devata)
Five primordial elements (Pancha Mahabhutas) namely- water, sky, earth, air, and fire
It is said that one who performs Deepa Puja with pure soul and mind, attains eight types of wealth (Asta Aishwarya). With the Jyoti (light) of the Diyas ends all the all negativity, evil, and malefic powers. Wisdom and brightness enters the life of the observer.
